Program notes:

"Mozart’s Violin Sonata No. 21 was written in 1778 while the composer lived in Paris during a difficult part of his life. This piece is associated with the death of Mozart’s mother, but there is no way of knowing whether it was written before or after her illness. It is the only instrumental piece written in the key of E minor and it is considered to have an “unusual gravity” and a character different from his other sonatas."
